AL MARTIN - CELEBRATION OF LIFE

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of an EGIHL legend and hall of famer, Al Martin. Al was a long-time player and sponsor (Midas) before suffering a tragic hunting accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. At the time, we only had one division with 8 teams and we re-named the trophy for the playoff champs as the Al Martin Cup. That trophy is now given to the winner of the Open division gold final.

Below is a vintage EGIHL photo with Al Martin donning the "C" in the bottom right corner. One of our current Masters players, Mike Pulhawski, is in the top row, 2nd from the left. Several former Masters players are in the mix including Peter Burry, Rod Saunders, Lou Goddard, Dave Jay, Frank Beard, and Paul Mutton (RIP).

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday October 25th at the Bracebridge Legion from 1pm to 4pm, for those who are able to attend. For more information, click on the link below:

Registration Fees:

As required for a non-profit organization, there was a thorough financial review in order to monitor the health & stability of the league. Like everything else post-COVID, prices have increased including ice, referees, jerseys, banquet food, etc. So, it came as no surprise to the GMs that registration fees have to increase to counteract.

The following are the 2025-26 registration fees:

Open division players: $550 (12-man roster)

Masters division players: $600 (10-man roster)

Goalies: $475

Sponsors: $700 + HST

Payments can be e-transferred to egmenshockey@gmail.com. Please ensure you include your first and last name in the message box so our treasurer, Darryl Murrell, knows where to allocate the funds. Full payment is preferred, but if you need to split it up, please ensure 50% of the fee is paid by September 30th with the balance by October 31st.

Important Dates:

Dec 16: Christmas social

Jan 6: First game back from break

Jan 20: Playoffs start for Open division (2 rounds)

Feb 24: Playoffs start for Masters division (1 round)

Mar 24: Last playoff games

Mar 28: Super Saturday championship games and year-end banquet

Rule Changes:

The accidental high sticking penalty has been reduced from a major (7-min) to a double-minor (2 x 3 mins). So, if a goal is scored, it will erase the current minor on the clock.

In the same vein, the minor penalty for a high stick will be removed. Instead, the referee will blow the whistle to stop play and a face-off will follow in the defensive zone of the infracting player.
