LEAGUE RAISES $4,445 FOR LESS FORTUNATE

It was a better Christmas for 24 families thanks to the efforts of the East Gwillimbury fire fighters and the EGIHL, who donated a whopping $4,445.00 towards the cause!
Last year, the league's total donation was $1,000 of which half was raised at the Christmas banquet and then matched by the league.
This year, sparked by Vince's Food Market's offer to match 50% of our food cards purchased, we quadrupled our donation.
The league purchased $2,000 in gift cards from Vince’s Market, wherein they donated an additional $1,000 to match 50%, as promised. Colin Wackett and some helpers filled about 18 buggies full of groceries on the Thursday after our banquet. So thankful to Giancarlo and the folks at Vince’s for their generosity! And to the Fully Promoted team who got things off to a great start with $1,000 at the first game thanks to Mark Stolte matching his team’s $375 donation and to James Suderman who topped it up by $250 to round it off to an even grand!
We raised an additional $1,125 at the Christmas party and received several donations later in the week including $300 from Carl Mount. These funds, including Ted Dzialowski’s $505 and Colin Hales’ $505, were used to buy toys including a couple of bikes.
Truly, food for the soul.
Thanks to Damien O'Flaherty, who reached out to Vince's to get this ball rolling!
On behalf of the league, we'd like to thank Vince's for their generosity. Surely, many of us living in the area will continue to reciprocate by shopping locally at their store.

EGIHL GOLF TOURNAMENT - HELPING KIDS PLAY HOCKEY
This year's tournament returned to Shawneeki and we had a great time with beautiful weather. The scores ranged from a best of -6 (2 teams tied) to a worst of plus-3. Very tight between the 15 foursomes entered.
Every player received a gift bag in lieu of prizes at the end of the tournament. The focus was to raise money for a charity. And thanks to the turnout and the prizes donated, the league was able to raise close to $1,000 for a worthy cause.
As a non-profit organization, the EGIHL continually looks for ways to support the community. In past years, we've contributed to the local food bank, helped a Holland Landing lady with a $10,000 donation towards prosthetics, kicked in half the cost to the Town of EG for a defibrillator in the arena, etc.
This year, the funds raised from the golf tournament will be donated to The Dunsmuir Dream foundation. This foundation was created in the memory of the Dunsmuir family that died tragically in a house fire. The two boys who perished both played minor hockey at our arena and the father was a sponsor for many years. The foundation's primary goal is to give back to minor hockey. In particular, they provide assistance to those who cannot afford to play minor hockey.
On July 22nd, the annual 3-on-3 Dunsy Tournament was held at NTR in Newmarket. Pictured below is league president, Steve Woolridge, presenting the foundation chairman with a cheque for $1,000 from the EGIHL.

We'd like to see our golf tournament grow in participation as it will allow the league to do more for the community. This year, more than 95% of participants were from the Masters division. We need the next generation from the Open divison to step up and show their support. They will be the key to continued success of the tournament in the years to follow.
